Saad Dance Parade 2014

This year the annual Saad Festival of Leganes in Iloilo in the Philippines is held in the month of January instead of the usual April. The reason for this is that April 23 is the birthday of the town's saint, St. Vincent Ferrer.

The festival is divided into two Saad Dance Parade which was scheduled on 2:00 pm of January 22 and the Saad Hubon Competition which is scheduled on 5:30 pm of January 23.

Here are some of the pictures from the Saad Dance Parade which was held this afternoon.

Philippine Coucal

The Philippine Coucal is a bird endemic in the Philippines. It belongs to the family of cuculidae or cuckoos and its scientific name is centrupos viridis. Its habitats are grasslands, mixed cultivations, second growth forest, and forest up to 2000 meters above sea level. In Iloilo it is called Saguksok.

This bird often go near our house but every time I sneak to get a picture of it, it flies away. This picture is the clearest among my attempts. This was taken on a rainy morning of January 3, 2014
